MIE E-mail Information

When you apply for a MIE user account, you are given a MIE email address: username@mie.utoronto.ca

Below you can find information on how to access your MIE email.

MIE Webmail

https://webmail.mie.utoronto.ca or click "Webmail" on the MIE Home Page.

Email programs

You can use any email program with either IMAP or POP3 connection. Recommendeded email program for all platforms (Windows, Macs, Linux, Unix): Mozilla Thunderbird

IMAP vs POP3 email connection

Email programs can retreive your messages using two different protocols: IMAP or POP3.

IMAP: Your emails and folders are stored in the server. If you use more than one computer, you will see the same messages and folders on every computer, which will always be in sync with the server.

POP3: Your emails are downloaded from the server and saved on your computer. Your emails and folders will be in your hard disk. If you use more than one computer, you will have separate copies of the emails and folders in each computer.

Email server settings

The MIE email servers support full encryption to send and receive messages securely. It is strongly recommended to use the secure settings. The legacy, unencrypted connections are still available for applications that might not fully support encryption.

Note: MIE Webmail users do not need to make any changes; the Webmail connection is already encrypted.
