Students must complete a minimum of 600 hours of practical work before graduation. For details, please refer to the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Calendar.
Work completed prior to first year will be considered, only if a student is in fourth year and has not yet completed the 600 hours. Students may not claim work completed as part of their fourth-year thesis. A list of accumulated hours of practical experience credited to each student will be maintained on the Degree Explorer. Click here to check your updated hours.
This form must be signed by you and your supervisor. Please attach your employer’s business card to the form, if one is available. To claim hours you must submit the completed form to the Undergraduate Office (MC109) immediately after finishing each work experience.
Engineering Career Centre (ECC) – Co-op and Internship Programs
The Engineering Career Centre (ECC) offers two internship programs that are specially designed to help undergraduate U of T Engineering students develop the skills and experience they need for the workplace. The Professional Experience Year (PEY) Internship and the Engineering Summer (eSIP) Internship are each equipped with a range of opportunities and benefits that can be tailored to each student’s career pathway.

PEY Program
The Professional Experience Year (PEY) Internship Program is the oldest and largest undergraduate paid internship program in Canada. The program team has established long-standing relationships with industry partners, connecting students with local and international opportunities that provide an experiential-learning experience prior to graduation. Second and third yearstudents apply for 12-16 month internships in their areas of interest where they can apply their knowledge in a project-based professional environment.
eSIP Program
The Engineering Summer Experience Internship Program (eSIP) is a paid four month summer co-op program available to second and third yearengineering students. eSIP is an introductory development program, exposing students to the world of work within their area of interest and allowing them to build relevant experience. For second year students, it may be used as a stepping stone toward securing a PEY placement in their third year.

Institute for Multidisciplinary Design and Innovation (UT-IMDI)
UT-IMDI provides remarkable opportunities for students to work on a real-life projects with industry clients. Most projects will run from May to August. Students will work under the supervision of a senior engineer and a faculty member on a specially designed task, with deliverables.
Students in all engineering disciplines will have the opportunity to select and apply, based on project needs, through a competitive interview process.
