Industry & Community Partnerships

Collaborating with industry and community members is essential to the research conducted at MIE. Our professors and students work closely with hospitals, financial institutions, healthcare facilities and other organizations to test and apply their theories in real-world settings.

We are always looking to create new partnerships on both small and large scales. Industry and community members are invited to contact one of our over 50 labs and centres about collaboration opportunities. General questions about partnerships can be directed to MIE's Associate Chair of Research, Professor Birsen Donmez at donmez@mie.utoronto.ca

Industry and community members are also encouraged to get involved with our Capstone program. This fourth-year undergraduate design course pairs groups of students with organizations and companies. Over the course of two semesters, the students are tasked with generating solutions to challenges presented by their clients. The program culminates in a Design Showcase featuring the final products and prototypes created by the students. Learn more about becoming a Capstone client.

There are also many opportunities to hire MIE students. Visit the Hire our Students page for more information.

Dionna Aleman - Industry and Community partnerships

"When you work in engineering, it's hard to get anything significant done if you don't have a real-world collaborator because our work is all about solving real-world problems."

-Professor Dionne M. Aleman, Capstone coordinator
