The MIE mentorship program is a chance to connect with upper year students and gain valuable advice about everything from where to eat, to how to get a job. First year is a great transition from high school. Mentors can not only give you insight on surviving first year, but can also give you a glimpse of what higher years in Engineering are all about. You’ll also be grouped with other first years, so this is a great chance for you to meet new people and make friends!
There are four events planned for the program. These are:
The mentorship program begins in September with registration and our first introductory event. There will be three more events during the year and it is expected that the mentor and first year student should maintain regular contact right up to March 2008.
To register, simply fill out and submit the online application form and we will begin the process of pairing you with a suitable mentor.
Mentors are not expected to tutor or provide academic help. The mentorship program is aimed at providing support and guidance to first years regarding issues such as time management, work-life balance, stream choices, co-op opportunities etc. Eng Soc provides a List of tutors along with other peer-tutoring programs. Every mentor group will be paired with two mentors, a big reason being that, if one of the mentors is in the middle of a busy time, the other mentor can step in. In the event that both mentors are uncommunicative, please contact us at .
