Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) Volunteers: Gardening at Downsview Park
On Thursday, August 13, 2009, the Summer LOT group put on gloves and went
gardening in Downsview Park with a volunteer organization called Evergreen,
a non-profit environmental organization that tries to make cities more
livable through naturalization projects. Downsview Park is currently
undergoing a greening project led by Evergreen. Once the transformation is
complete, Downsview Park will be Canada's first National Urban Park. The
park will also have the highest elevation in Toronto with a view of the
entire city landscape.
The Downsview Stewardship program has a bi-weekly team that works on
maintaining and growing the natural surroundings. The LOT group helped with
clearing out dead trees, trimming the branches, and raking the path. It was
a great opportunity for the students to volunteer in the community and to
see the beginnings of what will be a beautiful urban getaway.

Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) Summer Social: Rock Climbing
On Thursday August 20, 2009, the summer LOT group put their athletic skills
to the test with an evening of rock climbing at Toronto's Rock Oasis. The
group had a few experienced climbers, but most were new to the sport. Our
new climbers took the challenge in stride, learned the basics of rock
climbing, and spent the night pushing themselves to reach new heights!
