Powder Production:

Because of my expertise in the field of sprays and atomization,  I was approached by a group of researchers,  to develop a technique to generate small particles of metal which contain ceramic powder. This material referred to as the Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) has several advantages over other material and it is in great demand by the industry.  Under a NSF grant we developed a technique to accomplish this task. This technique is based on impinging of a molted metal on a rotating disk, and injection of the ceramic powder on the molten metal while flowing on the disk. This approach resulted in the formation of MMC particles, which have superior characteristic over the MMC produced using other techniques.
