Connections Program

...Ontario's newest design and manufacturing graduates at your fingertips.

The University of Toronto in collaboration with theMaterials and Manufacturing Ontario (OCE), formerly theManufacturing Research Corporation of Ontario (MRCO), hasinitiated an important technology transfer program thatcan help your manufacturing company adopt new technologyor solve a taxing technical problem.

the concept...

Undergraduate students entering their final year ofstudy in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing SystemsEngineering are required to complete a design or researchand development project.

OCE Connections provides our talented studentswith the linkages required to complete their projects. Wecouple your project with the most qualified and appropriatestudent. The outcome - bottom line results, both for yourcompany and the student.

the funding...

Project funding is provided by OCE and administered atthe University of Toronto; the average level of support perproject is $3,000 - $5,000. Once a project has been clearlydefined, additional support will be allocated to addressprototype costs, machining, materials and local travel.

In-kind support as well as equipment furnished by yourcompany is welcomed. This type of investment certainlyenhances the success of the project.

the timing...

Projects may be defined at any time, but the work willusually begin in September and end in April of the followingyear. This time frame can be expanded to include the May - Augustperiod if your company wishes to hire the student for the summer.

the project administration...

Initially, the problem definition and scope of the projectwill be established through consultation with your company;site visits will be made by a University professor.

Overall administration will be minimal but effective. We simply ask that your company identify an individual whocan liaise with the student and provide valuable insightand guidance.

Your student will arrange for regular meetings at yourcompany site to record problem definitions and report onprogress. Formal progress reports will be provided twiceduring the duration of the project.
