Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS)-Toronto Branch Field Trip

The Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS)-Toronto Branch and MIE invite students on a field trip to the full-size mock-up CANDU nuclear reactor at Darlington power plant. This is the first and the only one if its kind in the world. You will have the chance to get familiar with CANDU nuclear reactor and Darlington reactor refurbishment project.

If you have safety shoes, please bring them. If you do not, please provide your shoe size when registering online.

The tour will take place on February 27. The agenda for the day is provided below.

 

 

 

7:15 a.m. – Students arrive at Mechanical Engineering Building, University of Toronto
7:30 a.m. – Bus departs
8:45 a.m. – Arrival at DEC Information Centre Light Refreshment
9:00 a.m. – Overview of OPG, Darlington Nuclear and Refurbishment Project
10:00 a.m. – Board Bus for Site Tour
10:45 a.m. – Return to DEC Information Centre – Break
11:00 a.m. – Mock Up Facility – Pre- Tour Safety Brief & PPE
12:00 p.m. – Lunch and learn session with speakers from HR department
1:00 p.m. – Departure
2:30 p.m. – Arrive back at Mechanical Engineering Building

There will also be an introduction to the CNS and information on how to become a member (for free). Membership offers a variety of benefits including unique professionally organized networking and learning experiences such as guided tours to nuclear power plants, CNS Conference, seminars and many more.

Students will also be given direction on how to take part in volunteering activities at CNS to network with world leading professionals in this industry. If you have any technical questions please contact Moe Fadaee at moe.fadaee@cns-snc.ca

How to register:

After registering online, a $5 cash deposit is required to reserve your spot. Deposit will be returned at the end of the trip. Bring exact change to MIE Reception (MC 105) to secure your spot.  If the registration is filled please e-mail shannon@mie.utoronto.ca to add your name to the waiting list.
