2016 MIE Design Showcase
On April 7, faculty, students, industry clients, alumni and proud parents celebrated the achievements of MIE's capstone design students. This year, 254 students worked in teams to successfully complete 66 projects for industry clients. Read about the design projects here.

The department would like to thank MIE 490/491 course coordinators Professors Kamran Behdinan and Greg Jamieson, as well as Engineering Design Programs Assistant, Matthesa Gregg. MIE would also like to thank showcase student volunteers, Crystal Liu, Peter Ge, Leo Huang and Haya Eleraby.

Air Canada Partners in Biojet Supply Chain Initiative to Introduce Sustainable Aviation Biofuel to a Canadian Airport

Air Canada announced it will participate in Canada's Biojet Supply Chain Initiative (CBSCI), a three-year collaborative project with 14 stakeholder organizations to introduce 400,000 litres of sustainable aviation biofuel into a shared fuel system at a yet to be determined Canadian airport. The initiative includes a strong research component with the participation of Professor Murray Thomson as the University of Toronto partner on the large project.

Master's students wishing to graduate in June 2016 must complete their degree requirements by Wednesday, April 20. To request graduation, please send an email to brenda@mie.utoronto.ca by April 15.

JDE1000H - Ethics in Graduate Research Seminar: April 22

MASc and PhD students must attend one "Ethics in Research Seminar" JDE1000H, preferably during their first year of registration. Students do not enrol JDE1000H on ROSI themselves. Attendance will be recorded at the seminar.

VSRP OSOTF graduate student award: deadline May 13
Vision Science Research Program is announcing the annual competition for the VSRP OSOTF graduate student award. A $17.25M endowment from the OSOTF/U of T/ Vision Science Research Program-Toronto Western Hospital donation will provide support for a number of graduate fellowships for September 2016. Graduate student projects must be in areas related to vision science.

Dunlap Institute Introduction to Astronomical Instrumentation Summer School:
Deadline April 15

The school runs August 14 to 19 and includes both lecture and laboratory activities. It is intended for students who have finished at least the 3rd year of an undergraduate program or are in the early years of a graduate program, and have a background in astronomy, physics or engineering.

Catapult Innovation 4th Year FASE Undergrad Competition

The Catapult Innovation 4th Year FASE Undergrad Project Competition, sponsored by the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto (UT-Mi), aims to promote innovative, medical imaging-themed research at U of T Engineering through the exposure of fourth-year undergraduate projects to hospital-based UT-Mi researchers. A prize of $2,000 CAD will be awarded to the student team that best exemplifies innovation in the field of medical imaging and the spirit of advancing engineering in the medical imaging field.
